Construction work on 4 meteorological radar stations has finished

At the locations of MRC Gradište (Vukovar-Srijem County), MRC Bilogora (Bjelovar-Bilogora County), MRC Debeljak (Zadar County) and MRC Goli (Istria County) all contracted construction works have been completed and the installed equipment is functional. Radar measurements are available on the official website of the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service.
In the next period, the completion of construction works and the installation of the radar antenna and dome at the locations of MRC Uljenje (Pelješac peninsula) and MRC Puntijarka (Medvednica) are expected. This will result in coverage of the entire territory of the Republic of Croatia with radar measurements.
The construction works and the installation of new meteorological radars at the mentioned locations are the result of the strategic project of Modernisation of the National Weather Observation Network in Croatia – METMONIC, which is implemented by the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service.
Today modern methods of meteorological predictions and model making are inconceivable without high-quality radar data. The use of radar data obtained by new devices (WRM200 C-band Doppler dual polarization radars) will enable further development of innovative tools. Incorporating radar measurements of new devices into analytical and prognostic models will improve short-term weather forecasts.
